Jack Eugene Sanders, 67, of Panama City, FL passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, from complications of pneumonia. He was surrounded by his family.
Jack was born on January 28, 1950, in Columbus, GA at Fort Benning to Cullen and Nell. He graduated from Escambia High School in 1968. Jack married Bonnie Carolyn (Gilbert) Sanders on June 30, 1972. He worked in the construction industry before becoming a General Contractor for 40 years, retiring in 2009. After retirement, Jack began working at St. Andrews School as a Paraprofessional and was currently a Paraprofessional at Margaret K. Lewis School where he found joy every day.
Jack was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Jack's love for his wife Bonnie was evident to anyone who knew them. He was a proud father of three girls and shared them with anyone who would listen. As a grandfather, Poder or PaPa was a hero, he would light up when talking about his grandbabies and cherished every moment he got to spend with them. Jack never met a stranger, always had a smile on his face, loved everyone he met and was always there when anyone needed him.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, sailing, and being surrounded by nature. Jack also enjoyed history and relished in trips he was able to take with family. As a member of Community of Christ since 1968 and serving as an ordained minister since 1988, Jack was active in church youth camps, adventure camps, congregational ministries and missionary work.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bonnie Gilbert Sanders; his 3 daughters Jackie McHenry (James), Jessica Sims (Brent) and Janella Sanders; his 6 grandchildren Jade, Jocelyn, John, Ben, Ciara and Julia; his mother Nell Stowe, sister Faye Jones (Lee) and brother Michael Powell (Patti); as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Cullen Sanders and his brother Cullen Sanders Jr (Hazel).
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Kent Forest Lawn on Sunday, January 21, 2018. Funeral services for Jack will be Monday, January 22, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Kent Forest Lawn, followed by a graveside service at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Panama City Community of Christ (mailing address: 901 Texas Avenue, Lynn Haven, FL 32444).
