Hoyt Brice Blackburn, 76, of Milton, Florida, passed away May 5, 2018 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Florida after a short illness and several years of declining health.

Born August 26, 1941, in Munford, Alabama, he was the son of Edgar Brice Blackburn and Lois Elizabeth Parnell. He attended Munford High School until 1959 when he joined the United States Navy and remained in the service until he retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1978. He served honorably as an aircraft structural mechanic in both the United States and foreign stations and served as a Career Counselor after being stationed in Florida. Retiring after 20 years in the Navy, he was employed by NADEP and various aviation contractors from which he retired in 2002. After retiring, he enjoyed pursuing several hobbies, among which were gold prospecting and metal detecting.

Mr. Blackburn was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and most recently attended services at the Church of Christ in Santa Rosa.

On September 29, 1962, he married Tommie Lyn Chastain, to whom he was married for 55 years. His sons, Hoyt Brice Blackburn, Jr., Thomas Lenwood Blackburn and Anthony Wakefield Blackburn, all followed his example and served the country in the United States Navy.

Mr. Blackburn was preceded in death by his mother, father and a grandson. He is survived by his wife, sons and his sister, Penny Edmondson of Munford, Alabama, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
