Eleanor (Gallops) Spencer Obituary
Eleanor "Ann" Gallops Spencer, 76, of Kerrville Texas, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2017, at her home.

She was born in Pace, Florida, on March 19, 1941, to Reverend William D. Gallops and Eunice Love Pitts Gallops. She was the third of eight siblings.

She attended several elementary schools in Florida, and graduated from Suwannee County High School, Live Oak, Florida, in 1959, and briefly attended Madison Junior College in Madison, Florida.

Ann married William "Clifton" Spencer in February 1966, and later adopted his daughters, Suzanne and Kathy, as her own.

Ann helped to establish the Council on Aging in Santa Rosa County in the early 1970s and served as its Executive Director for a number of years. She was the ultimate caregiver and brought many services for the elderly to the County during her tenure.

Later in her life, Ann moved to Bakersfield, California, spending several years there and at Quail Valley RV Park, her little home in the mountains. She moved to Kerrville, Texas, in 2013, where she resided in a senior community. She enjoyed many close friendships and many of the residents came to enjoy Ann's excellent cooking.

Ann was an avid golfer for many years as a member of the Ladies' Golf Association at Rolling Greens/Tanglewood Country Club. At one time she even owned and raced a car at the local dirt track. She was an excellent seamstress, loved to fish and hunt, and delighted in cooking for a crowd. Ann was known for her homemade biscuits, banana pudding, chicken and dumplings, and many other dishes.

She was preceded in death by her parents and Clifton Spencer.

Ann is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Jim) Spencer and Kathy Cole; brothers, James (Sally) Gallops, and Charles (Judy) Gallops; sisters, Jean Cole, Helen Gallops, Patricia (Sam) Smith, Margaret Layne, and Martha (Mel) Hymen; grandchildren, Tyler (Beth) Spencewood, Will (Kelsey) Cole, Emma Cole, and Dennis Collard; great-grandson, Owen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ann also leaves behind her dearest friend, Carole Pursley.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Rev. Mike Poston, officiating. Visitation will be held 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., prior to the service.

Burial will follow services in Milton Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing.
