Adrian Douglas "Doug" Worley of Milton, Florida, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017. Dr. Worley was born in Atmore, Alabama, on May 18, 1936. His early life was lived in Pensacola and Century, Florida. He graduated from Century High School in 1954, and then from Pensacola Junior College in 1956 with a degree in Business. He was born again and baptized in the First Baptist Church of Century in 1956 and attended Pensacola Junior College and Tennessee Temple College on basketball scholarships. He completed a major in Russian Studies at Syracuse University.

Dr. Worley served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961 as a Russian Language Specialist, stationed in Japan and San Antonio, Texas. He married Hilda Campbell from Jay, Florida, in 1960. The Worleys moved to Quincy, Florida in 1961, and Dr. Worley enrolled at Florida State University where he completed a BA degree in Psychology and an MBA degree in Industrial Management. Later, he received an EdD degree in College Administration.

The Worleys moved to Santa Rosa County in 1963 and were employed by the school system. Dr. Worley was employed by Pensacola Junior College in 1966. At PJC, Dr. Worley held positions of Coordinator, Department Head, Dean and Provost. In 1980, Dr. Worley moved to the Milton Campus and directed the property purchase, design, and construction of the PJC Milton Campus, where he served as Provost until his retirement in 1995. He then became Administrator of the First Baptist Church of Milton for three and one-half years.

Dr. Worley's civic service includes: Chairman of the Board of Baptist Hospital and Baptist Health Care, President of the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of several Chamber committees, Member and Chairman of the Board of The Baptist College of Florida, President of the Sunrise Kiwanis Club, Chairman of the District One Private Industry Council, Vice Chairman of the District One Judicial Nominating Commission, Member of Pensacola Port Authority, Campaign Chairman for the Santa Rosa United Way, and membership in many other civic and professional organizations.

Civic recognition includes: twice selected as the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, selected to the Santa Rosa County Hall of Fame, Professional Secretaries Association Manager of the Year, and others.

Since joining Milton First Baptist Church in 1966, Dr. Worley has been a faithful member, serving most of that time as a Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School Teacher. He chaired many committees, including the Long Range Planning Committee, Pulpit Committee, Stewardship Committee, Personnel Committee, New Sanctuary and Fund Raising Committees, and others. Dr. Worley considered the most important day of his life in 1956 when he accepted Christ into his life. The second most important day being in 1960 when he married Hilda. He believes these two events guided the rest of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda; a son Alan and his family: Sherry (wife), Austin, Katie, and Mikaela; a daughter, Elizabeth Allison and her family: Steven (husband), Laura, Caroline, Joanna Ennis; a sister Glenda Willett and husband Henry; and several nephews and nieces.

Active Pallbearers: Jerry Mitchell, Steve Jones, Tommy Weekly, Lamar Faulkner, Bob Hughes, Dr. Bruce Young.

Honorary Pallbearers: Deacons of First Baptist Church and members of the former Charity Sunday School Class, Harold and Betty Arrant, Dr. Herb and Gynelle Lundy, Carol Ann Jones, Becky Young, Sissy Faulkner, Patsy Weekley, Pam Mitchell, Jean Hughes, and Cathy Swint.

Visitation was held 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Milton First Baptist Church. Funeral services followed visitation at 2:00 p.m., with Dr. David Spencer, Dr. Jonathan Russell and Rev. Bob Lowe officiating. Burial followed the service at Jay Cemetery. Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, has been entrusted with arrangements.
